The Redesign of the McGahey Residence
An MBA recipient from Vanderbilt University, Griffin McGahey services as Vice President of HC3, a critical document solutions provider in Birmingham, Alabama. Outside of the office, Griffin McGahey pursues a diverse range of hobbies that includes architecture and design. As part of these interests, he recently collaborated with his wife and an architecture firm to plan the renovation of his family’s house.
As featured in the publication StyleBlueprint, the renovation of the McGahey home was prompted by the family’s desire to stay in their Birmingham neighborhood but transform their home from a closed-in, three-bedroom space into an open and airy house with room for guests. To accomplish the project, they hired Christopher Architecture and Interiors.
To accommodate the McGahey's desire for an open living plan, the architects knocked down all but two interior walls in the original house while adding a second floor and installing floor-to-ceiling windows that let in ample natural light. Other important decisions included opting for a home office instead of a traditional dining room and designing spaces with soaring ceilings to give a sense of airiness without compromising warmth and comfort. Once the renovation was complete, the original 2,200-square-foot residence had been transformed into a bright and spacious 3,700-square-foot home with all the amenities the family needed.

Rotary Club of Birmingham Preschool Learning Initiative
An accomplished executive in Birmingham, Alabama, Griffin McGahey brings nearly two decades of experience to his position as vice president of HC3 and CEO of pay.claims. Outside of his professional life, Griffin McGahey gives back to the community through his involvement with nonprofit organizations such as the Rotary Club of Birmingham.
One of the earliest chapters of Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Birmingham has been serving the community since its founding in 1913. Over the past century, the group has sponsored important local initiatives such as Holiday Boarding Homes, the Red Kettle Foundation, and career mentoring for local students. One of the club’s most important programs is the Preschool Learning Initiative (PLI).
Initially conceived as a preschool reading education program, PLI began as a partnership with United Way that operated in private child development centers. The program’s success led to a 2012 expansion that brought in the Birmingham public school system as a partner and stakeholder, with two Pre-K classrooms established in local elementary schools.
While the Birmingham public school system provides the classroom and the teachers for the program, the success of PLI relies heavily on the Rotary Club of Birmingham for funding support and volunteers. To learn more about PLI, please visit www.birminghamrotary.org.
